If you’re looking for a refreshing way to cleanse and rehydrate, this simple yet powerful Watermelon Flush is *the* perfect recipe. It has three ingredients—watermelon, lime, and strawberries and is a personal favorite during the summer months and whenever I can find a GOOD watermelon.
Why Watermelon?
Watermelon is super hydrating, containing over 90% water. It’s also rich in vitamins A and C, which help boost your immune system, support glowing skin, and fight free radicals. Its natural diuretic properties make it an excellent choice for flushing out toxins, and I noticed a huge difference in my digestion after eating watermelon daily on an empty stomach for a summer when I first started the cleansing lifestyle.
The Benefits of Lime
Adding a bit of lime juice adds a fun flair to this smoothie. Lime is known for its high vitamin C content, which promotes detoxification and supports digestion. The natural acidity of lime helps balance the sweetness of the watermelon and is slightly astringent, meaning it has a ‘pulling’ effect on the tissues which is a great thing when you’re actively cleansing.
A Hint of Strawberry
Although strawberries contain antioxidants and vitamin C, I like to add them to this recipe to complement to the watermelon and lime and add a deeper color. They also add a subtle sweetness that adds a little something to this drink without the need for added sugar. I usually add the whole thing including the greens – you won’t notice a difference with them on.
